Halloween 2014

We had so much fun this Halloween!  This was the first year that we did a family costume theme and we made the costumes as well!

The Incredibles!!!

We got the idea to be The Incredibles earlier this year.  I mean, c'mon, we have our very own "Baby Jack Jack!"  I am so glad we decided to do this.  It made Halloween just that much more fun...for all of us!

I wasn't sure how to go about making the costumes and Jason said, "red sweatsuits!"  I figured I'd find sweats for the kids with no problem and struggle finding ours.  Wrong!  I found adult ones right away and the kids ended up with red, cotton shirts and fleece pants, ha!  The logos are made of fleece and I stitched them on, piece by piece, by hand.  Jason made the masks out of black duct tape.  It was a joint effort!

The Saturday before Halloween the Lion's Club in a neighboring town had a family night.  There were crafts and hayrides.  We met a couple of friends there and had a great time!

D, Joe and L

On Halloween day, Amelia's school had a Halloween parade and then the kindergartners had a short program for the parents.  We asked Amelia if she wanted a separate costume for school since being an Incredible alone isn't very much fun and she jumped at the chance to be, what else, a cat.

It was the cutest little parade and the songs they sang for us afterwards...priceless.

Amelia and her best friend, J.  These two go all the way back to 4K!

We found out this year that our kids just aren't big into trick-or-treating.  They were excited at the first few houses but then wanted to be done.  We narrowed it down to it being dark so next year we are going to make sure they each have their own flashlights.  For now, I don't mind the lack of candy in the house ;)

We're already brainstorming what we can be next year!  I forgot how much fun it was to dress up!

Halloween 2013

We had a fun Halloween this year!  Daddy worked the morning shift (after working the night shift the day before...) so he could come out with us in the evening!

This year we had a monkey, an airplane and a Ninja Turtle!

We made a stop to see Jason's family on our way to my parent's neighborhood.  They had Halloween treats for the kids which, of course, spoiled their dinner ;)  Jason and I had burgers with my family before we went out trick-or-treating!

Ready to go!

This was Joe's first year really understanding the whole trick-or-treating thing and he had the best time!

He would run up and greet them with all different things, including "good morning!", "Halloween!" and "Hi!"  He'd get his candy, say thank you and run off in search of the next house.

We only visited about 10-12 houses but both kids filled their buckets to the top!  Good thing too because Amelia was tired of walking in the dark and told us several times, "I can't walk forever!"

On our way home we stopped and saw Jason's grandpa and Ardie.  By the time we left there it was well past bedtime and we had sleeping kids when we got home!  Thankfully the transfer from the car into the house didn't get them too excitable and bedtime went smooth :)

Jackson stayed up until almost midnight...

...and then slept NINE straight hours for us!  Happy Day!

Trick-or-Treating

Last night the kids went on their first trick-or-treating adventure in Nana's neighborhood!  We went to only six houses but Amelia got quite a bit of candy.

Amelia had so much fun!  She would run up to the houses yelling, "kwik o kwee, kwik o kwee..." and then by the time the door was answered she was saying, "kwee, kwee, KWEE!"

*I'm not entirely sure why sunglasses were necessary but she found them in the wagon and then decided to wear them despite it being dark out.

I think Joe had a fun time too.  He went up to the houses with his sister and she got him some candy too.

On our way home we made one last stop to see Jason's mom, grandpa and his friend, A.

It was a busy day for us all and both kids were passed out by the time we made it home.

I can't believe it is already November!  This year has gone by so fast!

2012 (free) Halloween Costumes

Have you seen how expensive Halloween costumes are?!  In years past my family has found us costumes at Goodwill and we also bought one, new, two years ago.  This year I went looking for costumes for the kids and I was amazed at the cost.  To me, $30 for an outfit they'll wear once is just too much.

We had a costume party with friends tonight and tomorrow we are taking Amelia trick-or-treating for the first time.  So, I shopped my house and came up with costumes for the kids - for free.

Ewok Joe

Joe was easy.  He is wearing the costume Jason and I got Amelia two years ago - an Ewok from Star Wars.  We decided we would not re-use costumes for the kids but this one was the exception and luckyily it fits him perfect this year!

Amelia actually has three costume options.  Tonight for the costume party she was a blue princess.

Amelia the blue princess

We've had this dress in a dress-up box (along with a pink one - costume option #2) for awhile now.  She's never really taken to playing dress-up so the dress is basically new.  The tights are from the holidays last year and the shoes are from her closet.  The crown and wand are toys that get played with almost daily.  Voila - a blue princess.

*Her third option is a doctor costume my sister got her at Goodwill because she loves the doctor (thanks to Elmo Goes to the Doctor) and because Kim is going to school for medical assistant.

There you have it - Halloween costumes at no cost!  I have saved at least $50 in (new) costume costs this year and we won't have two outfits laying around after the holiday is over.  Oh, and both kids look great so this is definitely a win-win situation!
