Weekend Alone

We have been childless since last Thursday night!  My family went to visit extended family in Indiana and they asked to take the kids with - so they went!  I was a little apprehensive about sending them but I did it.  I worry, a lot, and I just wasn't sure I could handle them being gone, so far away, for so long.  Jason on the other hand, he was making plans for our weekend before I even let my parents know our final answer!

Friday night I just didn't know what to do with myself.  I got home, to and empty house, and just kind of did my usual things.  From there I wandered around looking for more to do.  I didn't take the nap I swore up and down I would take and by just past 6:00 p.m. I gave myself until 7:00 p.m. to finish up and then it was time to force myself to relax.

Work was rough last week and I was very sore so I tried out my new foot massager (found out there was a heated option which felt even better!) and did a puzzle while watching "I Love Lucy."

By the time Jason got home I had finally finished the outline of the puzzle and started building into the middle of it.  It's a foil puzzle.  Let's just say it wasn't the smartest choice for my first puzzle in a few years - it is difficult!

Saturday morning we headed north and met a friend to see "The Hobbit."  After that we went to her house to continue a movie marathon and hang out.  It was our first time to her house and they live on a beautiful piece of land!

We stayed up into the wee hours of the morning and slept over to be on the safe side.  She woke us up for breakfast Sunday morning and then we headed home.

Bald eagles on the way home

We had to check on on my family's cats and from there we went to Kohl's and Fleet Farm to look for clothes.  We both ended up with new jeans as well as work pants.  Pants shopping is getting easier for me as I drop the weight - yay!

Before we went home last night we decided to eat out and see another movie.  I know, two movies in the theater in one weekend - whoa!  I picked "Les Miserables."

I liked it but Jason?  Well, he said he enjoyed it but he didn't realize they sang everything and he also said watching Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) sing everything was kind of amusing to him.  He also had no idea what to expect from it as he had not seen the play like I have.

We had a lot of freedom this weekend but we sure did miss the kids!  It's strange to have so much time to yourselves - really!  We got a lot of picture text messages from my sister this weekend to keep us updated on what they were up to.

They are a couple of hours from home currently and should be back by dinner!  Jason asked if I could keep them up until he got home (10:15 p.m.) but I'm thinking that won't happen.  Plus, I think he might have been joking.  I will play it by ear.  If Amelia is doing ok maybe she and I will watch Netflix on the couch until she falls asleep.  Then he can see her when he gets home and tuck her in.  We'll see how moods are after being trapped in the car all day!

Football Date

This afternoon Jason and I had a date to the Vikings/Bears game!  He received tickets from his sister for his birthday a few months back and today was the day!  Oh, today was also the day that winter decided to show up - just our luck!  It snowed for about twenty hours straight today.  Twenty!  It's just now letting up.  We went from no snow to about a foot in a single day - crazy!

We paid a small fortune to park at a neighboring ramp because we were late (we missed kick-off) and it was snowing pretty steadily only to end up on the roof of the structure, ha!

We had a fun time!  The section we were in was probably about 85% Bears fans which made it fun!  At times the entire stadium was chanting "let's go Bears!" and our neighbor told us you could hear it on television - it was that loud!  The entire row in front of us was a family and Jason found a Viking friend amongst them to cheer with!  In the end the Vikings won and we spent a couple hours driving the ~45 miles home.

We are under a winter storm warning and I am a bit nervous for the drive into work in the morning.  They said that once the snow stopped the winds would pick up pushing some areas into blizzard-like conditions as the snow blows around.  Oh, the joys of winter in Wisconsin!

Weekend Highlights

We had another full weekend!

Friday night, before going to my parent's for the night, Amelia was a self-proclaimed "cow doctor."

She only "worked" on cows and, well, her mama.

Saturday morning we visited with our friend, Marie, and her son, Leyton!  They were in town so her husband could help out with a family member's move so we got to visit about two hours at my parent's house!

Joe - 10 months, Leyton - 7 weeks

After our visit Jason and I had a date afternoon/evening.  We had Mexican for a late lunch and then headed towards Minneapolis.  On our way we stopped at a thrift shop and found awesome deals on children's books (69 cents each - hardback, paperback or board) and Carter's pajamas for $2.99 that were maybe worn twice - they looked brand new!

Once we arrived in Minneapolis we walked around Mill Ruins Park which was really neat!

After exploring the park we headed to our final destination - The Guthrie Theater.  Jason (with the help of his mom) got tickets for us to see Roman Holiday.  It was a really nice surprise since I had no idea he even knew I liked that movie!

We enjoyed the musical a lot!

On our way home we stopped for pizza at Pizza Luce.  Funny tangent - when I was younger my dad took us to Pizza Luce and our server had green hair.  This apparently scared my sister and I and we started referring to it as "green hair pizza" and never wanted to go there.  Now I love it!

This trip we ordered the "Athena" pizza which has spinach, artichokes, red onion, tomatoes, feta and kalamata olives (which I held off my half.)  It was really good!  We ordered a larger size to have leftovers for work this week which was a nice treat today!

Sunday my parents brought the kids home.  We had dinner out in the parking lot with our neighbors, Matt and Dallas.  We cooked up the zucchini from our garden with some garden-grown oregano, fresh red potatoes and white onion from a local farmer.  In addition to that we also got sweet corn from the same farmer as well as a cucumber which we had with balsamic vinegar and onions.

It was really good and it felt really good knowing that all of the food came either from our garden or a local farm.  Our gardening goal has been met - we grew something and were able to eat it!

We watched a bit of the Olympics closing ceremonies before bed and I am a little glad the Olympics are over.  We enjoyed watching them, especially Amelia, but it is also nice not feeling like we are missing something when we aren't inside with the TV on in the background!  Plus, this week is "Shark Week" on Discovery Channel and I know a certain little girl who loves "haw-eeks!"
